TRCompton Ceramic Art Clay The day to day ceramics on twitter

So it was such a nice day today… 55 in January, in Indiana, that I decided to head up to the roof to do some work. I have been meaning to head up to the roof of the art center for a while to check on ventilation stuff, but once I got up there I turned into a little kid. What is it about being on the roof of a building that is sooooo cool. Anyway, we got our work done and learned a lot about some issues going on with that stuff and it was all a good time.

Its almost summer time and things just keep getting busier

So I will be honest I was a little sad today. I found Out my 40 hours a week summer job starts this week. Many people would say quit whining we all have to work. I totally agree. The depressing part is that this job will be in addition to substitute teaching at the local high school, teaching at the Indianapolis Art Center on Sundays and soon to be Tuesday nights. Somewhere I am also supposed to work in my studio, and do things with the wife too. Needless to say I am going to be busy the next few weeks. Anyway if you see me and I look a little in the dirt, give me a pat on the back and tell me it will be all right. Thanks.

Life transitions

I have noticed that ceramics is not an easy art form to move around with. A painting studio can be anywhere, a wood shop can be as simple as a few tools, and even metals can be fashioned using only a few things. Sadly there are not so many options for finding a heat source that fires over two thousand degrees. I am currently in the process of moving to Indianapolis, IN where I will be student teaching. For the past five years I have had the luxury of working in the fully equipped ceramics studio at Ball State University where I had any resource I could ever need at my finger tips. I am quickly realizing that unless I fall into $10000 soon I am going to have to change not only my processes and firings, but my form of working all together. While i am excited to see where this all takes me and my work I have to admit I am really nervous about my next few years in clay. I guess all I can do is keep my head down and keep on making.
