Where I like to post my thoughts on ceramic work I make and Ceramic work made by others that I like. Website: http://trcomptonceramics.com
Not to be to sappy here but it’s very rare that a piece hits you that combines everything you want to do with your art. I had a professor that told me progress comes in stair steps not as a ramp. This quantum leap of a plate is a salad plate for a set I have been dreaming and drawing about lately. It effectively combines a fantastic year of art experiences with ideas and skills from my clay past. I can honestly say its the piece I am most proud of making in the past year. Sometimes progress is so sweet. Ok, back to work!
Now that I have signed the paperwork, I now feel comfortable posting this online. I am now officially an adjunct professor at IUPUI’s Herron School of Art. I will likely be teaching hand building and/or wheel throwing this semester. To say I am excited would be an understatement. I still can’t believe that I am taking this huge of a step into my future. Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way. Be it online or through daily interaction, I appreciate all the support I have recieved. Here is to the next step on the long path of life!!!
Playing studio has started to turn into things… Not sure if they are good things yet but they certainly things. The first is an ewer with a cut out design I saw in England. The teapot is a first generation and has some nice things happening, but the proportions are all wrong. I am hoping to make a stand for it to sit on. The bowl is just a large version of my tea cups but may give some promise for a dinner set. We’ll see where it goes next.
I had a student give me a hard time because I hadn’t posted any new work lately, so I finally got out the computer and got to work tonight. There are Nine new pieces up, and I will try to add more later this week. Let me know what you think of the new stuff.
So it was such a nice day today… 55 in January, in Indiana, that I decided to head up to the roof to do some work. I have been meaning to head up to the roof of the art center for a while to check on ventilation stuff, but once I got up there I turned into a little kid. What is it about being on the roof of a building that is sooooo cool. Anyway, we got our work done and learned a lot about some issues going on with that stuff and it was all a good time.
So when people ask me what I have been up to lately, I try to explain to them that we totally gutted all of our studios, took out an old kiln, moved in a new kiln, painted all the studios, and moved everything back…. IN A WEEK AND A HALF. Yep, its been a busy one, but we are ready for classes on Monday at the Indianapolis Art Center. Looking forward to it.
