A very busy weekend past. This was the soda kiln at IUPUI. It fired off right before we loaded up the wood kiln making for a very long weekend with amazing results. Check out my Facebook page at TRCeramics for the results of this kiln.

Unloaded a wood firing today for IUPUI’s Herron ceramics students. A 22 hour train wood kiln firing that came out beautiful.

A good morning cup of coffee in a fantastic wood fired tea bowl. The tactile experience is great. The warm exterior, the satin ashed surface, the smooth glassy interior as I drink, and the undulating form. Surprisingly the lip is a bit thicker than expected but it’s a great experience to start the day.

Not to be to sappy here but it’s very rare that a piece hits you that combines everything you want to do with your art. I had a professor that told me progress comes in stair steps not as a ramp. This quantum leap of a plate is a salad plate for a set I have been dreaming and drawing about lately. It effectively combines a fantastic year of art experiences with ideas and skills from my clay past. I can honestly say its the piece I am most proud of making in the past year. Sometimes progress is so sweet. Ok, back to work!

Fresh home made pizza dough crusts for class at Herron today. I roll them out and half bake them at home. About 3 min in a 400 degree oven. It makes them easy to travel and class goes much quicker because they are easier to handle. Yum!!!

Managed to get about seven hours in my happy place today for my moment of zen. It’s funny when people think of studio as work. I use my studio to get away from work and I hope I can always keep it that way. I’m hoping these will end up in wood soda and reduction firings in the near future.
